Untreated: Untreated stripe assay testing Biomatrix (BM, green label) against myelin (unlabeled, dark stripes) running vertically throughout the screen. Motile U87 cells are almost exclusively located on BM. They sometimes extend protrusions onto the myelin stripes. However, such protrusions are retracted soon, and the cells reside on the BM stripes., therefore showing a clear preference for Biomatrix.

Treated with ROCK inhibitor: Same arrangement of Biomatrix against myelin stripe assay treated with the Y27632-inhibitor of ROCK. Orientation of stripes is from upper left to bottom right corner of the screen. Motile U87 cells are relatively immobilized as expected from the use of the inhibitor (Oellers et al. 7). In contrast to untreated cells, inhibited cells can freely move on both substrates with less preference for BM.
